International Symposium on Science Education (ISSE): Environmental Global Challenges in Science Education

We have an honour and a pleasure to invite you to Helsinki 10th - 12th June 2013 on the occasion of the third ISSE symposium. Symposium is organized by Finland's Science Education Centre, LUMA.

Science education is constantly undergoing major changes and developments, and new approaches to science instruction are needed. The environmental global challenges have been and will be among of the main topics in science education. The themes of 2013 ISSE Symposium are climate change, energy and renewable natural resources, water and food.

We welcome science teachers from elementary to senior high school level, prospective teachers, teacher educators and researchers in science education to attend this symposium and share their ideas and research. The symposium is based on plenary lectures, hands-on activities, and poster and discussion sessions.

Important dates

  • Proposals, with abstracts (max 500 words), for workshops should be emailed to, at latest on 14th February, 2013.
  • Registration begins on 15th February, 2013 and ends on 20th May, 2013.
  • Proposals, with abstracts (max 500 words), for poster presentations should be emailed to, at latest on 30th April, 2013.


All poster and oral presentations can be submitted to our scientific journal LUMAT: Research and Practice in Math, Science and Technology Education.
