Science clubs make learning fun! We organize science club activities for children and young people of different ages and interests, mainly in Finnish and Swedish. The goal of these activities is to provide experiences of success and inspire participants to explore STEM subjects. We strive to keep club fees as low as possible so that as many children as possible can join. We have also piloted various accessible science club models. One of our most popular clubs is the online science club held every autumn.

In Finland, the Basic Education Act and the National Core Curriculum require municipalities to provide morning and after-school activities for first- and second-grade pupils, aiming to support children’s educational growth, wellbeing, inclusion, and equality. To help meet this need, LUMA Centre Finland produces and offers free science-based content to municipalities, enriching after-school clubs with engaging STEM activities.
Its main objective is to provide accessible, engaging STEM activities for first- and second-grade pupils in primary school. At the same time, the club serves as a new form of continuous learning for municipal after-school program instructors.
During the Online Science Club, children can virtually explore different parts of Finland. The broadcasts alternate between different LUMA centers. In 2024, the club was organized bilingually in Finnish and Swedish, and in 2025 as separate clubs in Finnish and Swedish. The sessions take place on Tuesday afternoons, and each one is recorded, so participation is possible at other times as well. The recordings proved extremely popular, and their instructions were supplemented with written guidelines from the instructor and a list of required materials. Hundreds of club instructors and thousands of children from all over Finland have already participated in the LUMA Online Science Club!
