LUMA Week for schools and early childhood education

During LUMA Week, we share the joy of discovery and success! We encourage all learning communities to organize small or large activities related to science and mathematics during the week. In the school year 2025–2026, LUMA Week will be celebrated from February 2 to 6, 2026. During this time, LUMA Centres will arrange inspiring activities in various locations and online in Finnish and Swedish. You can participate in the programs organized by our network or create something entirely your own.

Check out last year’s LUMA Week program here.

Share your learning community’s activities during LUMA Week on social media using the hashtag #LUMAviikko and tagging us @lumasuomi. We will share your moments of success on our social media channels throughout the week.

About LUMA Weeks

LUMA Weeks have been celebrated in Finland since 2004. LUMA Week aims to spark interest in STEM subjects (mathematics, environmental studies, biology, geography, physics, chemistry, computer science, and technology) through various activities, and to raise awareness of these fields and their importance in society.

In addition to kindergartens and schools, events can also be organized in other public spaces, such as libraries, shops, and shopping centers. We especially hope that programs will cross subject boundaries and involve parents. We also encourage schools and kindergartens to collaborate with other parties, such as organizations and companies.

Ideas for LUMA Week

You can organize LUMA Week activities together with students, colleagues, parents, or partners. You can also ask your nearest LUMA Centre for tips or programs for your school or kindergarten.

  • Organize a school science fair or an art exhibition showcasing STEM-themed projects.
  • Hold a morning assembly focused on STEM topics.
  • Invite students from a nearby school or teacher trainees to visit your school or kindergarten, and arrange fun STEM-related activities together.
  • Invite parents or former students working in STEM fields to visit, or ask students to interview an expert in STEM.
  • Plan a visit yourselves to another educational institution, a company, a science center, or a museum.
  • Write and photograph LUMA Week events for your school’s website, social media, or newsletters for parents.
